This early work by G. K. Chesterton was originally published in 1900. Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London in 1874. He studied at the Slade School of Art, and upon graduating began to work as a freelance journalist. Over the course of his life, his literary output was incredibly diverse and highly prolific, ranging from philosophy and ontology to art criticism and detective fiction. However, he is probably best-remembered for his Christian apologetics, most notably in Orthodoxy (1908) and The Everlasting Man (1925). We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Unlike the book of essays, "In Defense of Nonsense", this book actually contains nonsense. It is all of a "high nonsense", the kind one finds in T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." It is certainly more serious than Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat, which seems to owe much to Carroll's poem about the walrus and the carpenter. This is very adult fare, just as the title reference to "Old Gentlemen" suggests.Product details

Greybeards at Play eBook G K Chesterton Reviews
Disappointing computerized reproduction. Spoils book.
Always the best.
Love all of his writings
I love GKC but this book is pretty much unreadable in the way it's formatted. It was almost indiscernible with the strange mark up.
Greybeards at play is Chesterton's poetry at its delightful best. The poems are light-hearted but profound. This is Chesterton's playground and he invites you to come enjoy it as a child again.
I always love a good read and G. K. Chesterton never lets me down. I began with Father Brown, but have moved on to other things he has written. Greybeards at play is now on my "repeat reading" list.
